In England and Wales you are now required by law to provide a Home Information Pack (HIP) when selling your house. Part of this pack must include an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which must be supplied by a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) or a licensed Home Inspector.

The certificate will provide an energy efficiency rating for the home and a table of estimated energy use and fuel costs. It also details the environmental impact rating, which is a measure of the home's impact on the environment in terms of Carbon Dioxide (COČ) emissions.

In addition, the report will provide recommendations for any cost effective measures to improve the energy efficiency and environmental impact ratings, along with estimated cost savings.
